How would UU/Karkat’s counterpart be a lime-blood when karkat ectobiologized two red-blood mutants in the veil?

Certainly he would have noticed if his own wiggler hadn’t been among the ones he created — it would have been a great source of self-loathing for him to latch onto as usual, “oh no, I don’t even belong in this session, I am a total anomaly”~

The thing that struck me as odd with the brief mentions of Karkat’s ectobiological adventures was that he didn’t think that he had made their ancestors at all, but just some random fodder. Vriska was the one who thought the other set of grubs were ancestors, as she told John. But Karkat would definitely know that the other mutant was his ancestor, so you’d think he was lying to her if he had not actually taken the time to wonder if perhaps Vriska was right while he was escaping Gamzee with Sollux. So who knows what that means.

To some extent, it kind of seems like the whole “one specific ancestor whose footsteps you must follow” is more of a highblooded thing, culturally? Vriska and Eridan seem to buy into it, but on the other hand, it’s not clear whether Tavros even knows or cares about his relation to the Summoner, despite close association with Little Miss Ancestral Roleplay.

Which would make some sense with lowbloods being so much more common than highbloods; the same sets of traits would show up much more often just because there would be more chances, so whereas finding a match between Scorpios or Aquarii would be really significant… there may have been, for instance, a Gemini every few decades - maybe not as precisely identical genetically as Sollux and the Psiioniic are, but close enough that finding some record of the actual double wouldn’t trigger the same “It’s a siiiiiiiign” reaction that Vriska had to finding Mindfang’s journal.

It’s like… my last name is a fairly common one, so I don’t get overly excited whenever I meet someone else who has it, because there’s enough of us out there that it’s highly unlikely that we’re closely related or something. I’d be considerably more interested to meet someone with my mother’s maiden name, because it’s less common (and due to the fact that my mom has a lot of sisters who had a lot of girls, it’s likely to disappear from our branch of the family after this generation).

Karkat is the equivalent of someone with a really rare but really ridiculous-sounding last name, who assumes that he’s being mocked if anyone else claims to have the same.

I’m reblogging just to say I agree with the above re: ancestors. I’m pretty sure a couple other trolls called ancestors stupid superstitious bullshit…. maybe that was even Karkat himself.
